WWE Payback Review

Payback indeed. Payback for Dolph Ziggler as he dared to produce top quality matches for the best part of 3 years. Payback for having the fuckin cheek to go down with a concussion 3 weeks after finally winning the belt that had seemed his destiny for an age. Paybacks a fuckin cunt right enough.

Aye, there were other matches in this PPV , and they were actually all pretty good, so we'll have a run down of them first before I get aw angsty about the Ziggler outcome eh. Here we go..

Sheamus vs Damien Sandow (Pre-Show)

I'd sincerely love to tell ye I watched this, and describe it in great detail, but I got caught up in an episode of Archer(it had a big dug in it, needless to say hilarity ensued) so I didnae bother my arse. Clips later in the show confirmed Sheamus won in predictable fashion. Moving swiftly on.

Wade Barrett vs Curtis Axel vs Martin oot the Simpsons (IC Title Match)

Excellent match this was. Great pace to it. Aside from the wee spell of dominance The Miz had that made you think he might actually win it, it was an absolute stoater. To give him his due, Miz played no small part in the quality of the match either. I'd have preferred Barrett to retain, but to see Mr Perfects boy lift the belt he helped make prestigious on fathers day was a nice moment. The finish was great aswell, with Barrett locked in that monstrosity of a Figure 4 and seemingly about to tap, Axel jumped in and pinned Barrett for the win. Axel becomes the new IC Champion.

Kaitlyn vs AJ Lee (Divas Title Match)

I expected a wee 3-4 minute affair here with not much wrestling involved, but it was actually a great match. They got 10 minutes, and maximised them perfectly. Hated the finish though, as much as it gave me a semi, AJ wrapping her leg round a burds head and pulling at her arm a wee bit isnae a submission hold, and it certainly isnt one I'd expect to see one of the stronger "divas" tap out to. Kaitlyn did though, and AJ Lee became the new Divas Champion.

Next up we saw the formation of the WWEs newest power stable, as The Big Show, R-Truth and Cody Rhodes joined forces to eh....sit round a desk and tell us what they thought of the show so far. GID HUSTLE BOAYS!

Dean Ambrose vs Kane (US Title Match)

Anyone else other than Ambrose and this would likely have been the match where ye jump in the kitchen and make yersell a nice tuna melt or suhin, but any match this man is involved in is must see. Was an engaging enough match, but there was never any doubt that Ambrose would retain. Via a fuckin count-out though? Perfect opportunity to have Ambrose pin a former World Champion in a singles match, but we'll make it a count out instead. Fuckin get tae. Ambrose wins.

Next up was the announcement that RVD is coming back, the collective impact from everyones excitement caused the world to implode. We are the last ones left.

Dolph Ziggler vs Alberto Del Rio (World Heavyweight Title Match)

I had the fear about this going in. It felt like there was tomfoolery afoot, but I didnt really allow myself to believe it would happen. Where's the logic in it? his burd has just won the Divas title, and his enforcer is getting stronger by the week, so why would you remove the WH Title from that equation, when the guy has worked harder than anyone to earn it? A fucking crime is what it was, and fuck yer double turn anaw. I couldnae care less if Del Rio is a face or heel (infact I actually didnt mind him as a face, but I think im in the minority there) and Ziggler is going to be a fan favorite no matter what. Repeatedly kicking a recently concussed guy in the head aswell? Obviously Del Rio knows what he's doing, but if he mistimes one of those kicks, it could have caused some damage. Fuckin utter shite. Horrible booking. A callous burial of a guy has been the most consistent in ring performer for years, and had shown vast improvement on the mic. Baws. Fuck this, fuck ADRs title reign and fuck WWE Creative. Just.....acht fuck. The crowd, who seemed to be doing a bad impression of the NJ raw crowd, were annoying as fuck anaw. Chanting RVD throughout. Fuck RVD anaw while im at it. ADR wins.

 CM Punk vs Chris Jericho

CM Punk, you beautiful mutton chop yielding bastard ye. I thought this might not happen, as having a comeback in a match with no heat seemed a bit pointless, but when you get two geniuses of this business together, its never pointless. Another stone cold beezer of a match, up there with the classic they served up at Mania last year. Punk came out to an unreal hometown pop, and the crowd were played a much more positive part in this yin than they did in the Ziggler match. The match swung back and forth, with Jericho kicking out after the GTS, and Punk kicking out after a beezer of a codebreaker (which none of the fuckin THREE commentators spotted) Punk eventually got the win with not one, not two..infact aye it was two...TWO GTS's. Punk wins.

Rollins and Reigns vs Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton (Tag Title Match)

I had this pegged for MOTN, but it had nae chance after the Punk match. Bryan and The Shield tried their darnedest to top it, but there was too much Orton for them to succeed. Acht I like Orton, but he has gone painfully stale, and it shows in his matches. Same routine every time, nae intrigue to his work at all. Cena at least throws in the odd botched Hurricanrana, but its always the same shit with Orton. Powerslam, DDT on the ropes, shite looking clothesline, RKO. He isnt a face either, its impossible to be a face when your actual face disnae show any expression ever. Bryan was once again wonderful though. That top rope suplex type thing he done on Rollins gave me goosebumps. He had the upper hand on Rollins, but after a wee stramash involving all 4 competitors, Orton pushed Bryan into a spear from Reigns for seemingly no reason, and then him and Reigns cleared the ring, leaving Rollins to perform a move I'd never seen before (a bit like the fame-asser, but with his foot instead of his leg if that makes any sort of sense) and pick up the win. Rollins and Reigns retain

John Cena vs Ryback (WWE Title Match)

Admittedly I'd probably had 4 or 5 vodkas too many at this point, but this was a decent match. The problem I have with the whole feud is that it has the most coveted belt in the company at the center of it, and I dont give a flying fuck about the feud. Horrible cringey promos from both, proper late 80s/early 90s patter. Rotten to the core. Cena and Ryback having decent matches together is no substitute for building real heat and anticipation for what should be the highlight of the ppv. Anyway, Ryback won the first stage by actually pinning Cena clean, Cena won the last two, the deciding stage seemingly unfolding on top of a cardboard ambulance, which they tore apart with ease, before Cena inexplicably FU'ed Ryback through the roof of it. Put it this way guys, if you had a heart attack, you would NOT want this ambulance to come get ye! Amiright? he he....

That was that. If you take the Ziggler result out of the equation, in terms of match quality it was a strong ppv, but the Ziggler outcome just scunnered me something fierce. A senseless, and extremely unpalatable end to what should have been a strong World Title run for him.

Results

Sheamus
Curtis Axel (New IC Champ)
AJ Lee (New Divas Champ)
Ambrose
Fuckin Alberto Del fuckin Rio
Punk
Rollins and Reigns
Cena
